Put this on in the background as you read: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B9gCFk0Znc
…and so, Gordon Brown went to my house (The Palace) today to ask the Queen to dissolve Parliament! Apart from making the River Thames fizz on April 12th, this means that there is an election in the mist and in 4 weeks, 2 days, 6 hours, and 30 minutes ish the close of poll will occur.
I predict that is around 492 hours of campaign time.
With that in mind, I believe we all can give a few hours of our time to fight for what we believe in: A Fair Future For All.
Remember some things that has been achieved:
- The Winter Fuel Allowance
- Shortest waiting times in history for the NHS
- Crime is down by a third
- The creation of Sure Start
- The Cancer Guarantee
- Record Results in Schools
- There are more students than ever before
- Disability Discrimination Act
- Devolution
- Civil partnerships
- There has been peace in Northern Island
- Social chapter
- Half a million children out of poverty
- Maternity pay
- Paternity leave
- Child benefit at record levels
- MINIMUM WAGE
- Ban on cluster bombs
- Cancelling of debt
- Trebling of aid
- The first ever climate change act
… the best thing about all of that is that everyone has done this together and that is what we all and others deserve.
What is there to do now?
- Secure the recovery
- Protecting OUR frontline services
- Standing up for the many
- Create new industries and future jobs
Have all this in mind.
As Gordon says: “From now until polling day I will travel the length and breadth of Britain with one clear message:
Britain is now on the way to economic recovery.
And now is not the time to put it at risk.”
He cannot do this alone and this is why it is important people like us stand up to the mark and fight for our future, and a fair future for all.
The next month will be intense campaigning across the country. Why not go and help out your local Labour PPC?
